Sizing Guide

Finding the perfect fit is essential, especially for luxury piercing jewellery and rings. Because every item is handcrafted to order, please use the guides below to ensure a comfortable fit before purchasing.

1. Fine Piercing Jewellery (Helix, Conch & Lobe)

Body jewellery is measured by two crucial dimensions: Gauge (the thickness of the wire) and Diameter / Length (how wide the ring is or long the stud is).

Wire Gauge (Thickness):

0.8mm to 1.0mm (20g to 18g): Standard for traditional lobe piercings.

1.2mm (16g): The standard size for most professional cartilage piercings (Helix, Conch, Tragus).

Hoop Diameter (The Fit):

6mm to 8mm: A snug fit for most helix or tragus piercings.

10mm to 12mm: A classic, roomier fit, and the typical size needed to loop comfortably around a conch piercing.

Pro Tip: The absolute best way to find your size is to measure an existing piece of jewellery that fits you perfectly, or pop into a local piercing studio to have them tell you your exact measurements.

2. Ring Sizing

If you don't know your ring size, you can purchase a cheap plastic ring sizer online, or visit a local jeweller to be measured professionally.

Pro Tip: If you're measuring a ring you already own, measure the inside diameter straight across the inner edge. If you're measuring your finger with a piece of paper, you are measuring the circumference.

  • Please note: Your fingers swell slightly when it is warm, so try to measure your hands when they are at a comfortable room temperature.

How to Measure Your Ear for the Perfect Hoop Size

To avoid ordering a hoop that is too small (which will pinch) or too large, you need to find your inner diameter. Because everyone’s ears are shaped differently and pierced at different depths, there is no "standard" size.

Pro Tip: The only foolproof way to get the correct size is to measure a hoop that already fits, or to go into your local piercing shop where they can quickly measure your ear.

If you can’t do either of these things, you can measure your ear at home using this method:

The Paper Test: Cut a small strip of paper and place the top edge flush against your actual piercing hole.

1. Mark the Edge: Make sure the paper is flat against your ear, and use a pen to mark exactly where the edge of your ear lobe or cartilage ends.

2. Measure with a Ruler: Lay the paper flat against a metric ruler and measure the distance from the top edge to your pen mark in millimetres (mm).

3. Add 1mm for Comfort: This final number is your minimum inner diameter. If your measurement was 7mm, order an 8mm hoop so it has room to dangle comfortably and won't pinch your ear.

Important Hygiene Policy: Please measure carefully! For strict health and safety reasons, piercing jewellery cannot be returned or exchanged if you order the wrong size. If you are unsure, please pop into a local professional piercing studio, and they will happily tell you your exact size in two seconds.

FAQs

What metals do you work with, and will they turn my skin green?

1

I work exclusively with high-quality, solid precious metals: Sterling Silver, 9ct Gold, 14ct Gold, and 18ct Gold. I use 100% recycled metals wherever possible. None of my pieces are plated or made of cheap base metals like brass or nickel.

A quick note on Sterling Silver: Because genuine sterling silver contains 7.5% copper for strength, it can occasionally leave a green mark on your skin if it reacts with certain body chemistries, high humidity, or heavy hand lotions. This is a completely natural, harmless reaction—not a sign of poor quality! Keeping your skin dry and wiping down your jewellery easily prevents it.

Can I wear my jewellery in the shower or swimming pool?

2

Because my pieces are solid gold and silver, they can technically get wet. However, chemicals like chlorine (in pools) and sulphur (in hot springs) can tarnish silver rapidly. To keep your jewellery looking bright and pristine, I always recommend removing it before swimming or applying heavy lotions and perfumes.

How do I clean my silver jewellery?

3

Sterling silver naturally oxidises (tarnishes) over time when exposed to air and oils. To restore its shine, simply gently rub it with the specialised jewellery polishing cloth provided. Avoid liquid chemical dips, as they can damage delicate gemstones or decorative finishes.

Can you customise an existing design?

4

Yes! Because I handcraft every piece to order at my bench, I can easily tweak a chain length, change a gemstone, or adjust a hoop diameter for you. Please reach out via the Contact Page before placing your order so we can confirm the adjustments.

Where is my MNDO apparel shipped from?

5

To keep our carbon footprint down and provide free shipping to both our UK and US audiences, our illustrated apparel and mugs are printed to order by high-quality print partners located closely to you. Because of this, if you order a ring and a mug, they will arrive in separate packages at slightly different times!
