Sighthound Gear
Tried, Tested & Hound-Approved Finding walking and home gear that actually fits a greyhound, galgo, or lurcher can be a bit of a minefield. With their deep chests, delicate necks, and bony joints, standard pet shop finds rarely cut it!
Everything recommended here has been thoroughly tested and officially approved by the studio hounds. Miss Nancy tried and travelled with our original favourites, and now sweet Gala (Miss Tuppence!) has added a few of her own top picks to the list. From escape-proof walking gear for out-and-about adventuring to cozy home essentials (because these elegant dogs were absolutely not made for lying on hard floors!), these are our absolute favourite things for sighthound life.

Out & About with Miss Nancy
Double ended leads are so useful, when your dog is new you can attach both to the harness and lead for extra security. Later on you can just attach to the harness but adjust the length of the lead, or use the other end to secure your dog to something.
The OneTigris travel bed has been so useful, I took this everywhere for Miss Nancy to lie down on. it’s pretty much waterproof too and we often shared it as a seat. She lay on it on rocks while I swam, beaches, grass, pubs and cafes. Your long dog will not want to lie on the floor and they have no protection at all from cold hard surfaces, so get one of these and don’t forget to put in in you rucksack!
Pink fleece coat (Miss Nancy wears XL)
You might be thinking does my greyhound really need to wear clothes?’ and most of the time I would say no, but they will want a coat for days when it’s very cold or windy if you are planning on getting them outside!
Yellow rain jacket (Miss Nancy wears XL)
My little yellow banana, I miss seeing her so much in this. Miss Nancy hated the rain, and a thin raincoat like this is so easy to roll up in your bag in case of a sudden downpour.
Pink cosydogs harness (Miss Nancy wears a size 5)
These are my favourite greyhound harnesses as it’s made of fleece so offers good protection where they don’t have much fur. even so you may find them getting bald (balder!) patched on their chest. Be careful of normal harnesses and collars rubbing and causing pain. It is possible for them to back out of these if you are pulling the lead in the opposite direction, so if you have a dog that regularly tries to pull a houdini get a secure three point harness instead.
This was the special collar I bought for Miss Nancy, but she lost going crazy on a giant pile of manure. I didn’t go back for it. I didn’t replace it as after we had got to know each other I just attached the lead to her harness, but if you are getting a new greyhound you’ll want a martingale collar for safety.
Health and Grooming
The first brush I bought to groom Miss Nancy has such hard bristles she hated it. It had been recommended as I sight hound brush but when I looked it up online I found it on horse websites as a horse grooming brush. I prefer a nice soft brush to groom them and give them a gentle skin massage and exfoliation.
For any cuts or scrapes.
Delicious liver flavour. I would recommend brushing their teeth everyday or as often as possible to prevent problems down the line. You want to avoid them having to be sedated for a tooth cleaning or teeth out.

At Home & Comfort
Big cushion bed with waterproof undercover
Her first bed. Speaks for itself really, comfy, two covers, perfect for a greyhound. Kent Greyhound Rescue has a great shop where I like to buy as much as possible so my money is going to help other greyhounds. Other charities have shops too so it’s worth trying to find places like this to support when stocking up on greyhound paraphernalia.
Miss Nancy’s first toy that was waiting for he on her bed when she arrived home with me. She learnt to play with him, killed his squeaker, and I will keep him forever.
Favourite winter double sided blanket
Miss Nancy enjoyed looking like Santa under this double sided blanket. Whatever blanket you get they are going to need a lot. Greyhounds just adore being snuggled under a blanket, and they will sleep better if they are warm and cosy which means you will sleep better too, They really can’t have too much comfort, and they definitely deserve it.
We both loved this squeaky, washable raspberry, we have a lemon too! I love that you can just wash it off, and because they are an odd shape they bounce funny which Miss Nancy liked. It took her quite a while to learn to play, but after a year or so she played a great game of raspberry snoot ball..
Gala’s Favourites
Gala is wearing pale heather in size 31 superslim. It’s so hard to get a jumper that fits nicely and I think this looks really sweet, I want to get her one with sleeves too! For reference she weighs 22kg.
Gala was kindly given this by her foster mum, the extra fastening at the back makes it more secure for a nervous dog that may try to escape. I have found the handle really useful also, and it has more features we haven’t used yet! I do think it’s making a bald spot on her chest though as the edges are hard so I am going to try and line it with fleece. When I find one I think is more comfy I will list it here!
Gala was also given this by her foster mum and I love it. These wide collars are specifically designed for sight hounds who have delicate, thin necks with little protection from fur. You need one of these if you are going to attach a lead to the collar when walking.
From Kent Greyhound Rescue shop. Nice and comfy in the hand, I always prefer a double ended lead which you can attach to both harness and collar for extra security, or just adjust its length.
This is a natural aid to discourage ticks. Looks pretty too!
Naturally to cuddle/murder as appropriate.
